Rafael de los Reyes grew up in New York City’s vibrant Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, surrounded by a rich musical heritage. Born to Cuban bandleader Emilio Reyes and Puerto Rican vocalist Irma Rodríguez, music was a constant in his life. Rafael’s extended family includes legendary percussionists like Walfredo de los Reyes Sr., Walfredo Reyes Jr., and Danny de los Reyes, whose contributions to music span iconic bands like Santana, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Chicago.
Rafael’s drumming and percussion career has taken him to stages alongside legends such as Bo Diddley, The Drifters, The Shirelles, The Platters, The Marvelettes, The Tokens, Mary Wells, Ben Vereen, Ben E. King, Joey Dee & the Starlighters, The Shangri-Las, Celia Crúz, La Lupe, Orlando Contreras, Vicentico Valdés, and Lou Pérez. His extensive experience in performance and collaboration fuels his passion for teaching.
